Music Crossing Borders

Our Mission

Music Crossing Borders teaches and inspires children in underprivileged circumstances to achieve their social and academic potential through music education. By cultivating an understanding of the unique cultures, rich histories and inspiring theories underpinning music from around the globe, children are taught how music is the "Universal Language" and a tool for creating a more peaceful world and a better humanity across all cultures.

Our Programs

MCB's Take a Tour™ program goes directly into public schools in New York City's most economically disadvantaged communities and provides 45-minute programs introducing students to music from around the world. Students attend an introductory assembly, where they meet with the MCB Ensemble and participate in a trip "around the world." Each subsequent program delves deeper into the genre introduced in the initial assembly. The MCB Band plays various musical types from African percussion, Afro-Cuban, Jazz and the Blues, to Dixieland and Klezmer. Following the assembly, MCB provides an intensive workshop on all of the musical types and in this exercise, students learn more about those music types through instruments, vocalizing, and basic music theory.

MCB helps children reach their academic potential through the benefits of music and is built upon an understanding and passion for the importance of music in the academic world, a love of performing and an overriding desire to pass on this education to children. MCB brings the message of "One Universal Language" to students of all ages, across cultures, around the corner and around the world. Our slogan says it all: 6.8 Billion People. One Language. International Outreach:

Beyond bringing music to the children in our community, Music Crossing Borders believes in the importance of educating the world at large! Each year, MCB teams up with other nonprofits serving under-funded schools and orphanages across the globe. Our goal is to add value and education to the lives of these deserving children through the power of music.
